Project abstract: The School & Institutional Trust Lands Administration is proposing a timber sale in the Tabby Swale area of it's Tabby Mountain Block in Duchesne County. The sale would include approximately 287.4 mbf of aspen to be harvested on 33.85 acres. The proposed aspen cut will utilize even-aged harvesting to promote aspen regeneration.
Local government's response? None yet received.
How is the local government(s) likely to be impacted? There are already two other active timber sales on trust lands in the vicinity of this proposed sale. Additional logging traffic may increase maintenance demands on county roads. Little to no other impact on local government.
Possible significant impacts likely to occur: There could be a short term increase in noise, dust, erosion, and removal of some vegetative cover during logging operations. Harvesting of mature and over-mature trees should stimulate reproduction. Slash will be piled and burned so wildfire hazard from slash will be reduced to an acceptable level. Skid trails may need to be built and reclaimed after the sale. Transport of logs may be done during winter months which could create surface disturbance on roads.
